Among the Reeds now on loan to Lieutenant Governor Will Ainsworth Office
Herons are one of my favorite large birds. Around our lake fly buzzards, osprey, eagles, and the heron. The heron is the most graceful in the air and they tend to model in the grasses alongside the river banks. I chose to do the grasses this heron is standing in with an Egyptian mosaic influence. The broken colors help define each blade. The reflections of the grass again emphasize the vertical nature of the composition. The heron poses for our enjoyment. The curve of its neck and back contrast with the straiter blades of grass. Another water image ... I love them.
