We experienced the passing of my sister-in-law this fall. Cancer took her too soon and we miss her so much! She led efforts to supply teachers in K-12; she was a teacher who was remembered and celebrated by her students over the years. She was wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. These flowers graced a table when we gathered together to share stories and comfort each other. It is a remembrance of the beauty of her life and of the hope she spread as she worked with others to make our world better.
With this painting, I tried something a little different. The background underpainting was a bright red. This color continues to peek through the lighter layers of color and gives the background a bit of depth that I'm quite happy with. The fall flowers speak for themselves in their vibrant colors. And the leaves lead the eye from one side of the painting to the other.
Life ... I hope that I captured and celebrated it with this painting.
