As summer storms blow into our area, gray clouds will announce their coming downpour. In this scene, located just north of Grant, Alabama, the sun hasn't given up the day yet. It lights the front of the barn and the trees around it. The blooming grasses in the foreground catch the sunlight and line the road back to the barn. A sepia underpainting helped define the balance of light and dark in the painting. The broken boards on the barn create interest in the barn face. And the road leads the eye to the barn and up the trees to the looming sky. I love the drama of Barn Storm!
