"Kind hearts are the gardens, Kind thoughts are the roots, Kind words are the flowers, Kind deeds are the fruits, Take care of your garden And keep out the weeds, Fill it with sunshine, Kind words, and Kind deeds." — Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Spending an evening in the gardens of 1818 Farms is a spiritual experience. Cats wind around your ankles and the sun slants across rows of beautiful blossoms. The colors all meld together in a peaceful symphony. Greens and sages and oranges and purples are a feast for the eyes. While I left out the growth supports in this painting, I hope I captured the joy of the garden.
I began with a red underpainting for the trees at the top and some golds for the underpainting on the bottom of the painting. Then I left the blossoms so that the light pure color would capture the light of the garden. While I may have placed the truck on the left side of the composition, I think it draws the eye across the flowers to the right corner. What a joy to paint this beautiful farm!
